Charlie Lee “L.C.” Hayes, 87, of Hamlet, passed away Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026 at his home.
L.C. was born May 27, 1939 in Richmond County, a son of the late Charlie and Ella Bean Hayes.
He was a general contractor, enjoyed helping people, and was a member of Mount Carmel Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cornelia Hinson Hayes; a son, Rodney Hayes; and siblings, Richard Hayes, Clifford Hayes, Edith Jacobs, Beatrice Heaton and Brenda Peele.
L.C. is survived by his son, Charles Hayes (Mary Lynne); grandchildren, Samantha Austin (Tristan) and Sarah Ray (Karim Olaechea); great-grandchildren, William, Lily “Chunk” and Daisey; siblings, Mary Allen and Dannie Hayes (Rose); and his longtime companion, Carol Goodnight.
The family will receive friends from 12:45–1:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2026 at Mount Carmel Free Will Baptist Church, 573 Battley Dairy Road, Hamlet.
The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. With the Rev. Mike Childers officiating. Interment will follow in Hopewell Independent Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Carpenter officiating.
